Too many cameras?

The other day, I posted about having bought my 8th camera. The responses (mostly on Facebook) were interesting. After one person offered to take a camera off my hands, I was told I had too many cameras, that I had a problem and that it was “excessive”. Now I understand that this was mostly in jest, but all the same I think it demonstrates an underlying misunderstanding.

I originally wrote a much longer version of this post, but Tumblr and dodgy wireless broadband conspired to eat it, so you’re left with this:

My cameras are the tools of my art as well parts of a collection which I plan to extend. Each camera has its own place as a tool as well as a piece of history and a beautiful object. Next you’ll be telling a painter that they have too many brushes. If you say that “you only need one camera, they’re all the same”, I will happily prove to you that they are most certainly not.

In summary, to quote good old Mom from Mom’s Friendly Robot Company: Jam a bastard in it, you crap.
